New sod only dies from lack of water! Please water as weather requires.
- Sod must be watered within 1 hour after it has been installed (sooner is better).
Water must penetrate sod and soak the ground beneath. - Sod must be watered a minimum of 3 times per day for approximately 30 minutes or more each time for the first 7 days. All roots are within the top inch and this layer must never become too dry.
- During the heat of the summer sod must be watered periodically depending on weather conditions.
Grass may be mowed as soon as it needs it. Remember to keep your lawn mower set high.
All sod has been recently fertilized on our farm and needs no fertilizer the first month. However, before installing your new sod, an application of starter fertilizer applied directly to the bare dirt would be very beneficial.
